Colombia – Struggle for Human Rights

Human rights situation in Colombia is one of the worst in the world. People for example are arrested, kidnapped or even killed. Guerilla movements and government play a role in the complicated civil war. Also the United States of America is involved in the conflict by having a war against Columbian drug dealers.

Non-governmental organizations have a great role on promoting the human rights. At the end of the year 2008 I visited Colombia and the area of Chocó and Arauca. I was able to see how the NGO’s are working in difficult situations. For example Lutheran World Federation is supporting successfully many local human right focused organizations. By promoting human rights and peace Columbia changes step by step.
