Water and food are the basic sources of life. Without it there is no life. In Africa millions of people are suffering from the lack of clean water and food. The current crisis of the world economics is worsening the situation. Price of the food is increasing, and poor people cannot buy it anymore.

Non-governmental organizations are doing important work by helping the poor. The Finnish Evangelical Lutheran Mission is helping for example in Senegal by constructing clean water wells and by building mills. Work is coordinated with the local partner, Lutheran church of Senegal.  Work has been successful and now many people have access to better life.

Looks and faces of people are interesting to observe. Here are some of the portraits I took in Mauritania. The country suffers from poverty and from lack of water and food, but still people are trying to live they ordinary life with a little smile.

Children’s home in Musoma Tanzania takes care of the children whose parents are dead or unable to take care of they own children. Faith based home provides food, shelter and place to sleep in a year for around 20 orphans. Before the age of two, children are placed to new families and they will get a normal life were there is a care taking mother and father.

Youth Centre Project in Tanzania is a development project created by the Finnish non-governmental organization Fida International. Aim of the project is to provide practical courses for youth on various fields with low fees. Youth Centre’s are managed by the Pentecostal Church of Tanzania and by its local leaders with support from Fida.

At year 2005 I visited the Stone Town Youth Centre in Zanzibar and Amana Vijana Centre in Dar es Salaam. I also visited Mwanza where the centre was under construction and to be opened in the near future.
